An Egyptian scientist hopes to achieve a cure for aging within 10 years

An Egyptian researcher in genetics has managed to draw a genetic map that will lead to the understanding of a mechanism that will help to achieve a cure for aging in a few years.

In an interview with “Arab World News Agency” (AWP), researcher Dr. Haitham Shaban expects to have drugs to treat the manifestations of aging within 10 years, pointing to the huge advances in the field of genetics in recent years.

Schauben, who is a cancer research program manager at the Agora Center in Lausanne and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, said that through his map, he understood the causes of cell aging in the human body. , in addition to the age factor, many other influences such as nervous pressure and causes.

The map also leads to an understanding of the mechanism by which aging cells can be restored to a youthful state by reprogramming the genome using modern techniques of his discoveries.

His study was published in the journal Cell Death and Differentiation, one of the journals of the international medical group Nature.

“As we age, senescent cells accumulate in the body, they stop proliferating, but they don’t die.”

These cells remain in the body, constantly releasing chemicals that lead to inflammation and contribute to the development of aging and age-related diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegeneration, which is a gradual loss. Nerve cell functions.

Cell senescence

Dr. Shaban spoke about his research project, which helped develop techniques for imaging the human genome in living cells to study genetic interactions and changes in the structure of genetic material.

“These techniques will reveal many secrets related to the complete rearrangement of the genome that occurs in mature cells, and which have been overlooked in previous studies due to the lack of these techniques,” he said.

He noted great progress in cell-based therapy: “A treatment has been achieved for some cells, such as pancreatic cells, so that the pancreas can function normally again after removing the old cells.”

He also talked about using senescent cells in the treatment of diseases such as cancer, where cancer cells are injected with senescent cells, causing them to stop dividing and multiplying.

Shaban said his study follows on from previous research: “In 2016, four proteins that cause cell aging were identified, and experiments were conducted in mice, in which 30 percent of mice with senescent cells could be treated. No access was achieved.” 70 percent result or knowing the reasons why these cells do not respond.

In his research, he was able to reach the mechanisms of interaction of mature cells, which opens the door to the response of all these cells at some point.

Aging cells that stop dividing cause damage to neighboring cells, resulting in many diseases such as Alzheimer’s and cancer, and their accumulation causes aging.
