Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described the stockpile of weapons supplied to Ukraine by Western countries as formal targets of the armed conflict between Moscow and Kiev.
“Of course, these weapons will be a legitimate target of Russian forces,” Lavrov said in an interview with Russian television, which the Foreign Ministry shared on its Telegram channel on Monday evening.
Arsenals in western Ukraine have become such targets more than once.
“How could that be?” Lavrov continued. “In NATO practice if you go to war with Russia through a proxy, if you are armed with that proxy, you are doing in war what you have to do in war,” he added.
Several NATO countries have recently said they will supply heavy weapons directly to Ukraine. The United States and Germany have so far avoided this.
Heavy weapons include main battle tanks, armored personnel carriers, heavy artillery, warships, warplanes, helicopters and large armored vehicles.
