German Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has insisted his side have no mental health issues ahead of their clash with English hosts Manchester United on Tuesday, following Saturday’s 1-5 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the league championship.
According to the German news agency, Tuchel told a press conference on Monday: “It would be incomprehensible if we had mental problems. There were no signs of this in training. If so, I cannot understand it. .”
Bayern have already qualified for the round of sixteen of the Champions League but will be looking to bounce back from that painful defeat against Frankfurt.
Tuchel added: “We dealt directly with the mistakes. Tomorrow we will have the chance to show our reaction in one of the biggest stadiums in football.”
He continued: “United will do everything they can to qualify tomorrow, but we expect a great performance from our side. I hope we can continue with the enthusiasm and energy that Manchester United are looking for and I’m sure they will bring that to the match.”
The Bayern Munich coach said he had not yet finalized his choices for the starting line-up, hinting that he would decide on the matter later.
He added: “Serge Gnabry will be out for at least eight weeks after picking up a hamstring during the Frankfurt match.”
Tuchel concluded: “Of course it’s a long time, he came back to us in good condition and then got injured again, which is unfortunate.”
