NEW YORK (Reuters) – Major U.S. stock indices ended higher on Tuesday, driven by Nasdaq’s gains, technology stocks recovering from recent losses, and sportswear and apparel maker Nike rallied after positive quarterly results.
Financial stocks also rose, with 10-year earnings up 2.36 per cent, generating significant index gains.
According to preliminary data, the benchmark Standard & Poor’s 500 index was up 51.38 points, or 1.15 per cent, at 4,512.56 points, while the Nasdaq Composite was up 270.91 points, or 1.96 per cent, at 14,109. The industry index was up 263.63 points, or 0.76 percent, at 34,816.62 points.
