New York University Abu Dhabi Vice-Chancellor Mariette Westerman confirmed that the University’s Climate Network forms a platform in support of the United Arab Emirates’ presidency of the goals of the United Nations Conference of Parties on Climate Change. (COP28), and provides youth with an important role to play in supporting the UAE’s efforts to achieve a qualitative change in the global climate action process.
He said: “NYU Abu Dhabi is proud to lead the University Climate Network, a network of universities and higher education institutions in the United Arab Emirates supporting its goals at the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties.”
He added: “The network now includes about 32 higher education institutions among its members, and this is a great opportunity for everyone to demonstrate their research skills in the field of climate and engage students in this file to mitigate the consequences of climate change and to address this challenge they face.” The whole world”.

Regarding the university’s initiatives to support the UAE’s hosting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, we are hosting the eighth edition at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) and the University’s “Green House” Research Center, in collaboration with Marriott Westermann, the Arab Youth Center in Abu Dhabi, for COP28. Formerly “COY 18” the United Nations Conference on Youth of Ten serves as a platform for climate action, capacity building and policy development training. Preparing youth to participate in international climate discussions and events.
This youth-led event emphasizes their vital role in the global climate action process and the importance of the visions and ideas they bring to support international climate change policies.
On the sidelines of the COP28 Conference of Parties, he said the university would also hold a Student Power Conference from November 29 to next December 1, noting that the event was led by a group of university students to unite. About 700 young people from 120 countries, and focus on finding innovative solutions to support transformation efforts in the energy sector.
Regarding the university’s research efforts, New York University Abu Dhabi currently embraces around 80 research centers that support all global efforts to address climate change, clean energy, sustainability and other pressing global issues.
He pointed out that the university welcomes students from 124 countries and is keen to involve the university’s student community in all initiatives and research initiatives implemented by the university that support global visions and aspirations on climate action.
