Two representatives of the Ukrainian delegation in talks with Russia announced their readiness to travel to the city of Mariupol, which is witnessing violent wars, to hold talks with the Russian side on the evacuation of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians trapped there.
“Mikhail Podoliak and I are ready to come to Mariupol to negotiate with the Russian side regarding the withdrawal of our military battalion and the withdrawal of civilians,” said Ukrainian President David Arakamiya’s adviser, leading the Ukrainian delegation to peace. Talks with Russia, he said on his telegram platform on Wednesday evening.
“Today, in conversation with the city’s guards, there was a proposal to negotiate the withdrawal of our military battalion in Mariupol,” Arachamia added.
“For our part, we are ready to reach such talks at any time upon receipt of confirmation from the Russian side,” he added.
On March 1, Russian forces completely surrounded the coastal city of Mariupol in southeastern Ukraine.
According to Russian sources, about 2,500 Ukrainian militants and 400 foreign mercenaries are being held inside the city’s Azovstel steel plant.
Ukraine reports that about 1,000 civilians are still trapped inside the factory.
