Viture’s gaming-focused glasses are the equivalent of a 120-inch screen in front of your eyes. We tested them with Nintendo Switch, PC, and Steam Tech, and this is what we saw.

There are smart glasses, whose idea has always been focused on assisting in daily tasks since its inception Google Glass. But now it has become advanced and multi-disciplinary in last few years. Companies like Apple, Google and Meta are competing to secure their share of the virtual reality glasses market, while Kickstarter-backed Viture is releasing the $479 One XR, which works with other hardware. Steam platform And Nintendo Switch and the computer.

The idea behind the glasses is that when you wear them, you see a 120-inch virtual screen in front of you, providing a smaller and more private viewing experience. Viture has offered PCMag a sample of the final product, which will hit the market very soon.

Experience gaming with Viture One XR glasses

Not to be confused with virtual reality goggles Sony PlayStation VR2. Viture One XR glasses are very simple and uncomplicated. There is no default user interface or secondary application to run it. Connect the USB-C card of your choice from the mirror to your device of choice.

The glasses offer Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution at 60 frames per second and have a contrast ratio of 50,000:1. All of this is presented on a small OLED screen on the lens. This is better than IPS gaming monitors with a contrast ratio of 1000:1 to 3000:1.

(Contrast ratio refers to the brightest whites and darkest blacks a monitor can produce.)

We first tested the glasses by playing Hogwarts Legacy on a desktop computer. I did notice some minor brightness, but that could be a game performance issue. The image was clear during gameplay, although you may sometimes want to increase the text size in the game options.

Then I tried it with Steam Deck and here it was even more fun. The displayed screen runs at a higher resolution than the Steam Deck screen. No need to pull the Steam deck up to my face to focus on the game. But once I got used to the glasses the gaming experience was easy. It is very sweet, smooth and clear.

The third experience was the best of all, I connected the Nintendo Switch to my XR One glasses to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I enjoyed fast, fluid, action games and great sounds. It was a unique gaming experience, much more comfortable from a TV screen or the smaller screen on the Nintendo Switch.

I also tried YouTube playback with the mirror connected to the laptop. One XR glasses allow you to enjoy a unique viewing experience from anywhere you have an internet connection.

When playing in front of a sunlight source, the experience was very poor. Therefore, the glasses were equipped with a lens cap attached to the front of the glasses. You don’t have to worry about the One XR wearing your regular optical glasses. Nearsighted people like me have a roller on top of the frame to adjust the vision.

Experience sound and neckband with Viture One XR glasses

The visual clarity of the One XR is good, but what about the audio experience? Unfortunately, you can’t connect a pair of headphones to the glasses, but the tiny built-in speakers deliver lively, gaming-friendly sound. Viture has partnered with Harman Spatial Sound – a company known for delivering big sound in small devices. During testing, I enjoyed clear audio that was barely audible from the next room.

Viture promises to release a neckband that helps increase battery life, and more importantly, allows you to connect it using Bluetooth technology to enjoy video games directly without wires.

Overall opinion on Viture One XR glasses

Virtual and augmented reality hardware has evolved over the past couple of years, and it’s finally paying off in a fun way. Wiiture gained some ground in the competition by introducing assistive glasses for Nintendo Switch and Steam deck games. It is expected to see strong competitors in the coming period as well. The novelty of smart glasses will certainly appeal to some, but I wonder about their utility.

Right now, Viture One XR glasses are shipping to Kickstarter backers, but they’re also available for pre-order on Amazon.com. Vitur website. The glasses, along with some accessories, are expected to be released in a few months. Stay tuned for our full review of the One XR glasses.
