The famous white dress worn by American actor John Travolta in the 1977 movie “Saturday Night Fever” sold for $260,000, more than $74,000 from the original sale price of $186,000.
Travolta played the role of “Tony Manero” in a dance competition with Stephanie Mangano, Karen Lynn Gurney in a white dress to the tune of “More Than a Woman”. Adopted by millions of young people all over the world in 46 years.
Clothing flight
And according to the website of Channel 5 in the state of Los Angeles, USA KTLA5The dress toured extensively before being sold at auction. It was originally owned by Dan Williams, head of Paramount Pictures, who produced the film, and gifted it to his close friend Brian Wasserman, a Travolta fan, in 1981.
In 2022, Wasserman sold it to U.S. Attorney Brad Deplitzky, who arranged a meeting with John Travolta to confirm it, and John told him that it was actually one of the 3 made for film, but it wasn’t. He used to dance and instead he took pictures of movie commercials.
Big auction
Last weekend, Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills featured more than 1,400 items from some of the best films of the silent era and Hollywood’s Golden Age as part of a two-day “Hollywood Refined and Contemporary” auction.
A spokesperson for the auction attributed the site to one of the most famous costumes in cinema history, and has become a symbol of the film and the entire disco era.
