Today, the fourth edition of the Asian Paralympic Games, hosted by the Chinese city of Hangzhou from October 22 to 28, officially opens at the Hangzhou Park Sports Arena.
This edition is the largest in the history of the Asian Paralympics, with 5,000 athletes from 44 countries participating, competing in 22 sports and 566 events, and its competitions are held in 19 sports facilities and venues.
The UAE will field 40 male and female players across 7 sports during the tournament, with Mohammed Al Hammadi (Athletics) and Ayesha Al Shamsi (Archery) both carrying the country’s flag in the team line-up. ‘ scene.

Today, the Games torch arrives at the Hangzhou Park Sports Stadium, where it will light the main torch after traveling from Guangzhou in southern China’s Guangdong province on October 12, commemorating the city that hosted the inaugural Asian Paralympic Games in 2010.
600 torch bearers from China including our national athletic team player Ahmed Nawad participated in the torch run.

In the last three editions, the UAE actively participated in the Asian Paralympic Games, and its champions managed to reach the podium in all of them, winning 47 colorful medals (10 gold, 24 silver and 13 bronze). , starting with the first edition in Guangzhou, China in 2010, the UAE won 11 medals (4 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze), and at the second edition in Incheon, South Korea in 2014, the UAE champions set a record high. The number of medals reached 25 medals (4 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze), and the UAE champions won 11 medals (2 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze) at the last competition in Jakarta in 2018.

Haifa achieved many results and achievements throughout her previous participation, starting at the Asian Championships in Malaysia in 2013 and ending with a bronze medal in the 73kg category at the 2018 Paralympics in Jakarta.

The athlete said: “Our preparations for participation in the Asian Games have been excellent and we have seen our participation in the World Powerlifting Championships in Dubai last August and we have benefited greatly from the association with the world champions.” He added: “The Asian Games will be a strong test, especially with a group of world champions from the Asian continent. We will try to do our best against the continent’s best competitors.”
He stressed that the goal is not only to reach the podium in this competition, but to reach the qualifying numbers for “Paris 2024”, especially as he tries to crown his efforts in this sport, which he has been training for 12 years, by achieving this dream. .
As for the badminton results, Mohamed Al Masroui lost his second match in the singles (WH2) category to Indonesian Wewen Andri 0-2, and he lost the doubles match with his teammate Jamal Al-Badwawi. In the (WH2) category, the Chinese pair Jimo Guo and Jianping Mai won 0-2.
