Lamiya Gargash grew up in Al-Hamriya area of Deira, Dubai and was fascinated by art and music from an early age, but her relationship with the lens went beyond her experiences and calculations! She got a little closer to photography because of her studies, but no spark of passion! When she went to the house of her old grandparents there was a big fire.. there the scene story started.
In an interview published in the Gulf News newspaper, Lamia linked old memories of her old, loving, harmonious community where parents, relatives and neighbors shared the school, small shops and most small details with the present. There is no closeness of community. Lamia is interested in documenting the homes of Emirati families in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman at various stages, including moving, then completely abandoned, almost deserted, squatter settlements or demolition sites. Soon. Lamia believes that every place, whether commercial or private, evokes the spirit of the human experience and should be celebrated.
Lamia prefers to use traditional film in analog photography, determined to resist the mainstream in favor of the convenience of working with the conventions of the past. The newspaper described her verbatim (seemingly his lens was trained on desolate places). Lamia comments: I live my life through visuals.. Stories are formed in my mind as a series of images rather than text. Documenting spaces is a true tribute to my home, my country, my city and a representation of human emotions and experiences. Dedicating my efforts to this type of documentation stems from memories and focuses on human stories, allowing the viewer to immerse themselves in the details and the beautiful stories hidden within them.
Lamia exhibits her work at the Third Line Gallery in Dubai and has participated in many local and international exhibitions and festivals, including the Venice Biennale and Galleria Marabini in Bologna, and her work has been exhibited at the Sharjah Art Foundation and The. Barjeel Art Foundation.
