The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center is researching “Oral Health in Space” in collaboration with Mohammed Bin Rashid Universities of Medicine and Health Sciences and New York Abu Dhabi.

Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi announced the discovery from the International Space Station

The study aims to simulate the environment of the International Space Station on Earth for long-duration experiments.

The study investigates the effect of microgravity environment on oral tissues using stem tissue

Dubai United Arab Emirates: Today, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences and New York, announced the launch of a study titled “Oral Health in Space” through a simulation of the microgravity environment on Earth. University of Abu Dhabi. Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi announced the study from the International Space Station, which is set to advance our understanding of the importance of oral health in space.

The study, titled “Oral Tissue and Neural Stem Cells as a Model for Studying Oral Health in a Microgravity Environment,” aims to understand developmental processes, functions and diseases associated with oral and dental tissues in a microgravity environment. Associate Professor of Endodontics at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences Dr. The study, led by Mohammad Kamal, plans to simulate the environment of the International Space Station on Earth for long-duration experiments.

Adnan Al Rayous, Director of the Saeed Saeed 2 Mission, UAE Astronaut Program, said: “We are proud to work with the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences and New York University Abu Dhabi. “How microgravity can improve oral health, helping to improve the well-being of astronauts on long-duration space missions. The results of this study will change the future of oral health. In space and on Earth.”

For his part, Dr. Mohammad Jamal, associate professor of endodontics at Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences and principal investigator of the study, said: “Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences is proud to be a part of this. This research group conducts experiments to study the impact of microgravity on oral health, and our commitment to specialized research and innovation drives us to collaborative research efforts that expand the boundaries of knowledge and contribute to the improvement of human health and well-being. , we want to explore new insights that will enrich our understanding of health and enable quantum leaps in dentistry.”

The study is one of the scientific projects managed by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center funded by the Information and Communication Technology Fund of the Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority and aims to support research and development in the field of information and communication technology. The Muhammad Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, an academic arm of Dubai Academic Health Corporation, will lead the work in collaboration with New York University Abu Dhabi to conduct scientific trials within its own campus. Analyzing the results of experiments and preparing samples.

The study aims to achieve two main goals; The first was to study the effect of the microgravity environment on oral tissue cells, and the second objective was to evaluate the effect of this environment on bone formation by two different types of cells. The study is expected to last one year and 6 months, and will address the challenges of accurately simulating the microgravity environment on Earth, in addition to conducting medical examinations during space missions or on the International Space Station.

Potential findings from the study will help scientists understand the function of oral tissues in a microgravity environment, thus providing important data related to overall oral health. In addition, he will contribute to the development of high-throughput stem cell models for the study of oral health in space. The results of the study will also lead to the development of 3D models of oral tissues, and highlight the potential of the microgravity environment to develop new treatments for genetic diseases.

This study of oral health reveals human adaptability and resilience, and advances health research advances in space. The results of this study will lay the foundation for future research into the impact of microgravity environments on human health, and mark the beginning of a new era in space medicine.
