Manchester United coach Erik Den Haag has expressed concern over the injury to teammate Anthony during Thursday evening’s 1-4 win over Chelsea in a match postponed from the thirty-second round. English Premier League.
Manchester United, with yesterday’s victory, decided to qualify for next season’s Champions League, with Manchester City, champions Arsenal, runners-up and Newcastle in fourth.
Brazil international Anthony was carried off on a stretcher in the 29th minute with an injury Den Haag feared was “serious”.
When asked about the player’s injury after the match, ten Hoag told reports published by British news agency “PA Media”: “I don’t know. Everyone saw him go off.”
He added: “I can tell you it’s a serious injury, but we have to wait at least 24 hours and then know more about the condition of the injury.”
Den Haag’s reports point to the possibility of Anthony being absent from Manchester United’s squad for the FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3.
It should be noted that Manchester United are also awaiting the assessment of Luke Shaw, who is suffering from a back problem.
Den Haag said: “We have to wait. Anthony’s injury looks serious, but we don’t know what it is yet. As for Luke Shaw, we also have to wait. We’ll know in a day.”
Manchester United have already missed out on the FA Cup final thanks to efforts from Lisandro Martinez, Marcel Sabitzer and Toni van de Beek.
Manchester United are already looking to topple City in what Den Haag believes will be a “successful season”.
Den Haag said: “I always have high expectations of myself and I think this club belongs in the Champions League, so it should qualify in the top four (in the Premier League).”
He added, “This league is very competitive and there are many teams and clubs competing for these positions and all of them have big budgets and good teams to achieve this.”
He continued, “For example, we see Chelsea who have a great squad that includes famous players.”
Den Haag added: “We’re very happy to be at the Golden Square. I think we’ve had a good season in the English Premier League. I can say it’s been a good season.”
