DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — The Israeli military said Sunday that Yemen’s Houthi group hijacked a cargo ship in the southern Red Sea, denying it was “Israeli.”
The Israeli military added in a post on X Base (formerly Twitter) on Sunday: “The hijacking of a cargo ship by the Houthis in the southern Red Sea is the most serious international incident.”
The Israeli military indicated that “the ship left Turkey for India, with a multi-national crew on board.”
The Israeli military said, “There are no Israeli citizens on this ship and it is not Israeli.”
“The ship is owned by a British company and managed by a Japanese company,” the Israeli military said, without providing further details.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Houthi forces in Yemen, Brigadier General Yahya Sari, announced in a blog post on the X site on Sunday that “an important statement will be issued by the Yemeni armed forces in the coming hours.”
Earlier on Sunday, the Houthi group announced its intention to “target all types of ships” associated with Israeli companies, “based on religious, national and moral responsibility and in view of the brutal Israeli-American occupation of the Gaza Strip, the daily massacres and genocides, and the demands of our Yemeni people and others.” In response to people’s demands.” Freedom and recovery for our oppressed people in Gaza,” reads a quick post on the X platform.
The Houthis are launching ballistic missiles and drones at Israel, which has previously reported intercepting several missiles and drones “over the Red Sea” in the wake of the Israeli war in Gaza.
