The International City for Humanitarian Services today, Saturday, airlifted vital supplies provided by the World Health Organization to Aswan in southern Egypt, which serves as the main gateway for aid distribution in the region.

The supplies were sent by C-130 aircraft belonging to the private fleet of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The plane’s cargo contained more than 10 metric tons of relief supplies, with a volume of about 46 cubic meters. The ship carries basic medical supplies that will directly benefit around 49,000 people in need of emergency assistance.

Aware of the strained health facilities along the Egyptian border, WHO is sending an additional 10 metric tons of medical supplies to Aswan to meet the medical needs of some 49,000 patients who have arrived in Egypt from Sudan.

The health products include non-communicable disease (NCD) kits to treat hypertension and diabetes and acute malnutrition kits for children to provide immediate care to more than 4,000 children.

This will be the thirteenth flight to be dispatched from the WHO logistics center in 2023, underscoring the growing need for health supplies in response to emergencies around the world.
