The alliance, led by the American Ricketts family, which owns the Chicago Cups, the American baseball team, has withdrawn its bid to buy Chelsea Football Club. The Ricketts family and its allies have decided not to make a final attempt for Chelsea because members of the alliance have not been able to reach an agreement on the final structure of their bid, according to British news agency PA Media.
Tom and Laura Ricketts teamed up with American billionaires Ken Griffin and Dan Gilbert in an attempt to buy Chelsea.
The final bids were due Thursday, but the Ricketts-led coalition withdrew its bid.
“In the process of finalizing the proposed offer, it is increasingly clear that some issues cannot be resolved due to the unusual dynamics surrounding the sale,” he added. “We have a lot of admiration for Chelsea and their fans and we want the new owners to win.”
