A study by York University in Toronto, Canada, has revealed that pictures of American reality TV star Kim Kardashian are causing more physical dissatisfaction among young women.
According to the New York Post, the study actually named Chancellor Kardashian and her sister Kylie Jenner as influencers, which contributes to women’s dissatisfaction with their online content.
The ideal “thick slim” body, defined by researchers as “curved” characterized by a small waist and flat stomach, has recently become very popular in the mainstream media.
The researchers studied the relationship between Sarah McComb and Jennifer Mills body type and body satisfaction and surveyed 402 Instagram users aged 18 to 25.
The study found that lean body ideal actually causes “greater dissatisfaction with weight and appearance”.
According to the study, being perfect in appearance – such as trying to reach Kardashian’s body in an unhealthy way – can lead to irregular diet, unhealthy weight-control behavior, low self – esteem and social anxiety.
So, while social media drowns out the focus on the “thin, slender” body, it may be worth clicking “Do not follow” according to the study.
This study suggests that women should follow people, surround themselves with people who inspire them, and make them feel more confident.
