Snow and rain have lashed many parts of Afghanistan over the past few hours, and flights to and from Kabul airport have been disrupted by snow. More snow and lower temperatures are expected in the coming days.

The United Nations Office on Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that severe winters are already exacerbating the dire situation facing many Afghans..

UN spokesman Stephen Dujarric quoted the UN news website as saying that humanitarian partners were running out of time to deliver aid and supplies in line with its commitment to expand operations..

“In December, our humanitarian partners reached out to seven million people across the country with food relief supplies,” he added.

The OCHA notes that products for the winter are supported, including the provision of cash and non-food assistance. Donors donated $ 1.5 billion last year in a humanitarian appeal to Afghanistan.
