Russia has withdrawn from a request to hold a UN Security Council vote on Friday on a draft resolution on the war in Ukraine, diplomats told the AFP on Thursday.

An ambassador said they had “asked for joint funding” for their speech, which they said was focused on humanitarian issues, but “did not receive a response.” Russian initiative and would not have voted for it.

On Thursday, Russia confirmed its reluctance to present a draft resolution during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council requested by the West.

“We have decided that this draft resolution will not require a referendum,” said Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations.

Russia has been widely criticized by several countries in the Security Council for initiating this draft resolution, which is humane in nature, “condemning the attack on civilians” and demanding the protection of civilians from leaving Ukrainian cities.

“This is Russia’s biggest hypocrisy,” said Albanian Ambassador Ferrit Hoksha. “It should be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.” He added that the war had caused “three million refugees in three weeks”; This is equal to the total population of Albania.

Her British counterpart, Barbara Woodward, condemned this “hostile” attempt, calling it “a shameless game in the face of extreme human suffering.”
