Amman – Representing King Abdullah II, HRH Prince Ghazi bin Mohammed, the King’s Chief Adviser on Religious and Cultural Affairs and his personal envoy, today (Monday) inaugurated the Astronomical Laboratory set up on Mount Umm al-Tami in the Wadi Rum area.
His Excellency Prince Ghazi listened to the explanation given by the astronomer Imad Mujahid that this is a new tourism product for astronomical tourism, according to the nature of the Wadi rum area similar to the surface of the moon, so that when Wadi rum is present, tourists can observe the sky, planets, stars and galaxies. .
Founded by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Commission, the laboratory aims to monitor celestial bodies and various astronomical events and phenomena, and to expand astronomy, the field, with the participation of tourists, university students and those interested, is expanding the field of scientific tourism in Jordan and attracting astronomers and educational institutions.
The summit of Umm al-Tami Mountain was chosen as the location of the laboratory, within the criteria and criteria for building astronomical laboratories. The Astronomical Observatory clearly shows the sky.
This astronomical project falls within the vision of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, promoting tourism, adding a new tourism product to the aerospace tourism industry, promoting external and internal tourism, and highlighting tourism diversity Jordan
