Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with the President of the African Union, Senegal President Mackie Sal, on Friday in Sochi to discuss the expansion of economic cooperation.

“On June 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks in Sochi with African Union President Mackie Salou, and the head of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mohammed, will attend,” the Kremlin said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the report, the two sides want to discuss the issues of relations between Russia and the Union, including the expansion of political dialogue and economic and humanitarian cooperation with the countries of the continent. The meeting is also aimed at exchanging views on issues of international agenda and the development of Russia-Senegal relations.

Earlier, the Senegalese president expressed fears that Western sanctions against Russian banks and their disconnection from the SWIFT system for global payments could lead to a food disaster.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has vowed to continue fulfilling his pledges to export food and fertilizer to Africa, asking the West to lift sanctions on Russia and calling on continental countries to help implement agreements in the sector. .
