Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has dismissed the idea of signing Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe at the next stage.
The French striker had told the Parisian club that he would not be renewing his contract with the club, so his contract expires in June 2024 and he will be a free player next summer, meaning he can move to another club for free.
Press reports claim that Paris Saint-Germain will decide to allow Mbappe to join Real Madrid this summer in order to cash in and avoid his departure next year.
In Eurosport reports, Guardiola said: “We will not sign Kylian Mbappe, he will not join Manchester City. You all know where he wants to go.”
Asked about the future of his team-mate Ilkay Gundogan amid reports linking him to Barcelona, the Spain coach replied: “I know Barcelona are interested in signing Gundogan, but we are interested in keeping him. He is at the club. I hope he stays with us.”
He went on to say that if Barcelona win, they will get the best player.
For his part, Ilkay Gundogan spoke after joining the German national team: “No decision has been made yet. I am still in the process of deciding my future. There are links with Borussia Dortmund, but a return to the Bundesliga. Not part of my plans.”
Guardiola said of Joao Cancelo, who is on loan from Manchester City to Bayern Munich: “We have not received any offer from Barcelona for Joao Cancelo, we have not received any offer from them.”
