Participants emphasize the importance of the Sharjah Book Fair to showcase their cultural projects

In its 42nd edition, the Sharjah International Book Fair provides an ideal platform for many participants from government agencies and public welfare associations to highlight their efforts, promote their achievements and present their latest ventures.

Among these institutions is the Sharjah Arabic Language Academy, in which Dr. Ahmed Safi Al Mosteghanemi, Secretary General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, spoke in a special statement to Emirates news agency WAM about the importance of the academy’s participation. A global cultural forum to highlight the Academy’s most important achievements, namely the Historical Dictionary of the Language, describing the Arabic language and all its words and summarizing the heritage of the Arab nation.

He said that completing the historical dictionary of Arabic language has been the dream of Arabs for more than 80 years and thanks to Almighty God and the support of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi. The Supreme Council and the Ruler of Sharjah himself, in the Academy and the coordination of 13 Arabic Language Academies, under the banner of the Federation of Academies, the Arabic language has so far completed 15 letters, a total of 67 volumes, each volume containing 750 pages.

He pointed out that a number of factors contributed to this achievement, including modern technology, artificial intelligence and massive financial support from the Ruler of Sharjah.

For his part, Sharjah Police Science Academy Director General Brigadier General Dr Muhammad Qamis Al Othmani told WAM that the academy is keen to participate in the annual Sharjah Book Fair. Due to its importance at the Arab and international levels, the Academy presents 136 publications this year, including 36 new publications of intellectual production, legal literature and scientific research.

Throughout the day of the fair, a number of intellectual seminars and lectures on policing, guidance and educational topics will be conducted by professors and other officers from the academy. To achieve comprehensive security between the two sides.

Majd Al Shehi, Director General of Emirates Copyright Management Association, emphasized the importance of the Sharjah International Book Fair in launching the Sharjah International Book Fair. Point out that the association seeks through this participation to attract publishers and authors to sign contracts representing the association if the association sells copyright licenses for their books to users before users want to copy their books. Libraries and universities, from here, the publisher and author will reap their financial returns.

He pointed out that the number of members affiliated with the association has so far reached 53 members, the association owns 1,490 Emirati books, has signed agreements in this regard with several countries – the United States, Britain, Ireland, Brazil and Malaysia – and in the coming period, the association will sell the first license in the UAE to several universities in the country.

Emirates Publishers Association Program Director Al-Anood Ali said the association, which has 305 members, seeks to introduce visiting readers and word lovers to the association’s most important program through its participation. The “platform” includes 7,000 books and 400 titles representing 36 Emirati publishers.

He pointed out that the association will hold several dialogue sessions during the fair, the most important of which is the session between Emirati publishers and publishers from Korea, which is the guest of honor of the fair, and the session is on children and youth literature.

Abdullah Al-Hawaz, Cultural Program Developer at King Abdullahi’s Center for World Culture “Idra”, highlighted the aims of the Centre’s first participation in the Sharjah International Book Fair, introducing the Centre’s efforts to support and inspire the community. In addition to introducing the Center’s library, members are involved in reading and initiatives related to science, innovation and creativity. It is considered one of the largest public libraries in Saudi Arabia and has 326,000 books in Arabic and English. The kingdom’s first children’s museum, his electronic library, apart from the specific program “Reading Enrichment” directed to introduce male and female students in Arab countries to the most important initiatives and services of the center.
