With the launch of the OnePlus 11, OnePlus gave a small tease about its first foldable phone back in March. The company played a short video on stage, confirming that the OnePlus Fold is definitely a thing and coming to the Samsung Z Fold series (Evidence)
It looks like OnePlus really wants to steal Samsung’s thunder. A recent report regarding the device indicates that the OnePlus foldable launch event will be held in New York in the first half of August (Evidence) which means the device will be launched a couple of weeks after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Does the OnePlus Fold have what it takes?
It’s one thing to set a release date as soon as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is done. That means OnePlus wants to steal Samsung’s thunder. The most important feature is that the device will be available in the US, India and all other countries where OnePlus currently offers its devices.
Hence, OnePlus is also targeting the same markets as Samsung. But the real question is, does the OnePlus Fold have what it takes to compete against the Galaxy Z Fold 5? Well, it all boils down to specs and price. As far as we know, this device will be the international version of Oppo Find N3.
This means you’ll find a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 16GB of RAM, a QHD+ internal display and an external 6.5-inch FHD+ display. Both displays can run at a 120Hz refresh rate, giving you a smooth overall experience.
In terms of software, the OnePlus Fold will launch with OxygenOS 13.1 running Android 13. The device is expected to have up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, so you don’t have to worry too much when it comes to storing large files.
Finally, when it comes to cameras, the fold will have a 48MP ultra-wide sensor, a 50MP main sensor with OIS, and a 32MP periscope on the back. Those are some pretty decent specs for a foldable phone, if you ask me. I think OnePlus can attract customers to the Z Fold 5 at the right price. But we have to wait and see if that actually happens.
