DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Do you like nuts? It is considered a light food that is beneficial to human health when eaten in limited amounts as part of a healthy diet. But sometimes they are a source of food contaminants such as mycotoxins.
The Food and Drug Authority in Saudi Arabia, in a tweet on “Twitter”, addressed some advice and instructions to take into account.
- Buy from trusted sources and avoid street vendors
- Store in dry, airtight plastic bags
- Removal of insect infestations or rodents when they appear
- It is better to keep it at low temperature
What are mycotoxins, or what are called “aflatoxins”?
They are considered to be toxic compounds produced naturally by certain types of fungi, provided suitable environmental conditions for their growth, such as temperature and humidity during storage, are available.
The Food and Drug Authority in Saudi Arabia states that these mycotoxins are one of the chemical pollutants that can cause illness in humans when ingested.
Earlier, the Saudi Ministry of Health, through its official website, warned about the most common allergen, nut allergy.
What foods are allowed for people with nut allergies?
