Russia’s Luna-25 spacecraft crashed on the surface of the moon after entering an uncontrolled orbit, Russian news agency TASS reported.
The Russian space agency (Roscosmos) has reported that the Luna-25 spacecraft has lost contact with the lunar surface after crashing into it.
Yesterday, earlier on Saturday, Russian officials said there was an “unusual situation” on the spacecraft, noting that the vehicle must enter the structure in preparation for landing the vehicle on the lunar surface within two days. New orbit of the Moon at 14:10 (11:10) Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) yesterday.
He added, “During the operation, an unplanned situation occurred at the automated station, which did not allow the maneuver to be carried out as per the given coordinates.”
Without disclosing further details, the Russian company said that experts are investigating the incident and finding its causes.
The vehicle was scheduled to land on the moon on Monday.
First task
Notably, this is the current mission to land on the Moon since the launch of the Soviet Luna-24 spacecraft in 1976.
Last Wednesday, the Luna-25 spacecraft entered lunar orbit for more than 5 days, searching for an ideal landing site during its orbit.
According to “Roscosmos”, the vehicle is planned to land near the south pole of the Moon.
Luna-25 is about the size of a small car, and aims to spend a year at the moon’s south pole, where scientists from the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and other space agencies have been exploring over the past few years. Traces of frozen water in the craters over the years.
The presence of water has implications for major space forces, as it would allow humans to temporarily reside on the Moon, and help them extract resources from the Moon.
