NASA rover finds trapped in trash bin between two boulders on Mars
The object was accidentally discovered by NASA’s Perseverance spacecraft while searching for signs of life on the red planet.
NASA said in a tweet that “the team discovered something unexpected”, which it said was a “heat blanket” believed to have been part of the equipment debris that contributed to the spacecraft’s safe landing on Mars last year.
The company questioned what caused the piece to land about two kilometers from where the landing gear crashed, which may have been the result of wind.
During their voyage to Mars, the spacecraft emit extreme temperatures and gravitational forces, which cause them to penetrate the atmosphere at speeds of up to 20,000 kilometers per hour.
This tool helps to reduce the impact of the spacecraft on the spacecraft as it detaches from it before landing and causes severe damage.
NASA intends to continue the diligent spacecraft until January 2023 as it continues to send images and search for samples for exploration.
The “diligence” rover was designed to find traces of ancient microbes associated with Mars three billion years ago.
Perseverance landed on the surface of Mars in February 2021, after seven months of space travel, in a spectacular success, lasting for many years in search of evidence for a possible past life on the red planet.
Scientists believe that there was a lake 3.5 billion years ago and that it is considered the most dangerous landing site because of its terrain.
