Artist Mohammad Mamtooh followed a diet that helped him lose 16 kilograms in just 18 days, i.e. water fasting.
In this report, “Masravi” will reveal to you all the details about the water diet mentioned on the “Healthline” website.
What is water fasting?
Water fasting is a type of fasting in which you cannot eat anything other than water. Most water fasting periods last 24 to 72 hours. Here are some reasons why people try water fasting:
Weight loss.
Detoxification.
Improving health.
Many studies have linked water fasting to some health benefits, including reducing the risk of certain types of cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
Water fasting promotes automation, in which your body breaks down and recycles old, dangerous cell parts. When you dissolve it, it comes with many health risks, and it is not suitable for everyone.
Is water forbidden for people to fast?
Arthritis, diabetes (both types 1 and 2), eating disorders, the elderly, pregnant women and children.
How to follow a water diet?
If you have never fasted before, it is best to spend 3 to 4 days preparing your body without food, and this can be done by eating small portions at each meal or by fasting for a portion of the day.
Water fasting (24-72 hours):
During a water fast, you are not allowed to eat or drink anything other than water, and most people will drink two to three liters of water a day.
Water fasting lasts 24-72 hours, and should not be fasted longer than that without medical supervision due to health risks, and some may feel weak or dizzy.
After fasting (1-3 days):
After a water fast, you should resist the urge to overeat because eating too much can cause uncomfortable symptoms, so eat juice or small meals instead, and start serving larger meals throughout the day when you feel most comfortable.
The post-fasting phase is very important because you are at risk for Refining Syndrome, a dangerous condition that causes rapid changes in body fluid levels.
Health benefits of water fasting:
1. Promotes automation:
Automation is a process in which old parts of your cells are broken down and recycled, and many studies suggest that automation can help protect against diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and heart disease.
For example, automation prevents the formation of damaged areas of your cells, which is a risk factor for many types of cancer, and it helps prevent cancer cells from growing.
2. Helps to lower blood pressure:
Research shows that clinically monitored water fasting can help lower blood pressure in people with high blood pressure.
3. Improves sensitivity to insulin and leptin:
Insulin and leptin are important hormones that affect the body’s metabolism, and insulin helps the body store nutrients from the bloodstream, while leptin helps the body feel fuller.
Research shows that water fasting makes your body more sensitive to leptin and insulin and increased sensitivity makes these hormones more effective.
For example, if you are hypersensitive to insulin, your body is more efficient at lowering blood sugar levels and at the same time more sensitive to leptin, which helps your body activate hunger signals more efficiently, thus reducing your risk of obesity.
4. Reduces the risk of many chronic diseases:
There is some evidence that water fasting reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease.
Dangers and Risks of Water Fasting:
1. Wrong weight loss:
Water fasting controls calories so you can lose weight quickly, and unfortunately a lot of the weight you lose comes from water, carbohydrates and muscle mass.
2. Dehydration:
Water starvation makes you dehydrated because 20-30% of the water you consume daily comes from the foods you eat, and if you drink the same amount of water, you may not get enough water if you do not eat foods.
Symptoms of dehydration include dizziness, nausea, headache, constipation, low blood pressure and decreased productivity.
3. Orthostatic hypotension:
Orthostatic hypotension is common and you may be at risk for dizziness and lightheadedness due to low blood pressure that occurs when you suddenly wake up.
If you have orthostatic hypotension during fasting, you should avoid driving because the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness can lead to an accident.
4. An increase in multiple medical conditions:
Water fasting aggravates some conditions, so people with the following medical conditions should not fast without first consulting a doctor:
Arthritis: Water fasting increases the production of uric acid, which is a risk factor for gout attacks.
Eating Disorders: There is some evidence that fasting promotes eating disorders such as bulimia, especially in adolescence.
Can water fasting help you lose weight?
Like other types of fasting, it can help you lose weight, but it can also cause many health risks.
