Today, Saturday, Morocco crowned the men’s and women’s titles at the African Breakdance Championships, securing two spots at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
On the men’s side, Morocco’s representatives finished first and second in the two-day event, while Algeria finished last. For women, Morocco tops South Africa and Algeria respectively.
Thanks to this good performance, Morocco won two African places in the Olympic Games, which are reserved for the winners of each category.
90 participants from 16 African countries are confirmed to attend this organized African event, which will take place between May 12 and 13, under the high patronage of His Majesty King VI.
According to the Royal Moroccan University of Lutheran Sports, Physical Activity, Hip Hop and Similar Styles, 15 athletes were selected to represent the Moroccan national team (10 men and 5 women) and they participated in this competition to defend the national jersey. The format of individual clashes, after intense preparatory training sessions, with the goal of winning first place as the only ticket to Olympic qualification.
The sports event is organized under the banner of the International Federation of Sports in association with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Ministry of National Education, Primary Education and Sports.
On the sidelines of the international event, workshops on music, hip-hop performances, breakdance, “graffiti” drawings, “slams” and “badukada” art were organized, as well as an artist’s wharf at Bouregreg Bank and a “Hip-hop Culture and Breakdance: Sports Training in Africa” International Symposium on Ambitions for Institutionalization” and Continental Breakdance and Slam Competitions.
