Today, Sunday, October 1, 2023, a conjunction is observed in the skies of Egypt and the Arab world. the moon A few hours after sunset on the eastern horizon, the waning gibbous over Jupiter, the giant of our solar system, is a phenomenon easily visible to the naked eye.
The Jeddah Astronomical Society said in a statement that after several hours, they will reach the moment of conjunction at 03:51 a.m. Makkah time on Monday (12:51 after midnight GMT) and will be separated by only two degrees.
The appearance of the gibbous moon near Jupiter is designed only for the dome of the sky, because they are not close to each other in space, the moon is about 366.00 kilometers from us, Jupiter is 618,344,666 kilometers away.
Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the sky after the Sun, Moon, and Venus, appearing to the observer as a bright white dot to the naked eye, and when viewed through binoculars or a small telescope, he will see the disk of the planet. Around it are four large moons called the “Galileo moons”: Ganymede, Callisto, Europa and Iowa – which appear as small points of light near Jupiter.
Late at night, all of these objects move westward as a result of Earth’s rotation on its axis, but the Moon’s actual motion is eastward relative to the stars.
By observing the position of the Moon at the same time every day, its movement will be observed towards the east with respect to the stars and planets in the sign, so that the Moon will be observed to have moved away the next day. From Jupiter, it moves eastward, which is its natural motion in its orbit around Earth.
