Meta, the owner of the Facebook platform, announced on Friday that it will cut the prices of Quest 2 headsets and advanced Quest Pro headphones.
The price of “Meta Quest 2” will drop from $499.99 to $429.99, and the price of “Quest Pro” will drop from $1499.99 to $999.99.
Meta lost $13.7 billion in 2022 from Reality Labs, the business unit responsible for developing the company’s ambitious technologies for the Metaverse world.
The “Realty Labs” unit generated $727 million in revenue in the fourth quarter of last year and $2.16 billion in revenue for the full year 2022, while its revenue in 2021, including sales of Quest glasses, will reach $2.27 billion.
Meta announced the Meta Quest Pro 2 headphones last November, but their high price put them out of reach for most consumers, while their low price makes them very attractive.
“Our goal is to make devices affordable for as many people as possible to take advantage of everything the company has to offer in the field of virtual reality,” the company said in a statement.
Price changes for MetaQuest 2 glasses will begin on March 5th.
US and Canadian buyers will see the new Quest Pro price on March 5th, while discounted pricing for the rest of the world will appear on March 15th.
