Manchester City have agreed a 45 million deal to sign Leeds United midfielder Calvin Phillips.
Citi will pay 26 42 million for the transfer of the 26-year-old, with a potential bonus of up to 3 3 million.
City, the English Premier League champions, made Phillips their main target during the summer transfer season with the departure of Fernando after 9 seasons with the team.
Phillips, a graduate of Leeds United School, has played in 214 first teams since 2015.
He was active during the Manchester City transfer this summer, with striker Erling Holland signing a 51.2 million contract from Borussia Dortmund.
The player has signed a contract that will extend until 2027 and will join the team on July 1st.
City striker Gabriel Jesus has been linked with a move to Arsenal.
In the style of coach Pep Cardiola, who relies on a player in this position, it is expected that Phyllis will replace Rodrigo at the center of the defensive midfield.
Phillips was a member of Leeds under former coach Marcelo Pizza. He excelled at playing in the midfield alongside Teklin Rice in the England national team.
Phillips, who won the award for the best player in the 2021-2022 England national team, faces stiff competition to join England in the World Cup final. He was challenged for a place on the team by Judd Bellingham, Jordan Henderson, Connor Gallagher and James Ward-Bros.
