The “Raim” site was one of the first targets targeted by the Iss al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), with the start of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” battle. It has so far killed at least 700 Israelis and left thousands injured.
Stationed at the command base is the “Gaza Division”, which is part of the Southern Brigade in the Israeli army, originally named “Fire Foxes”.
The “Gaza Division” was established following the start of the first Palestinian intifada in 1987, and its mission focused on controlling Gaza, Khan Younis and Rafah.
Following the “Gaza-Jericho” agreement in 1994 and the completion of the complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in 2005, Palestinian withdrawal from urban centers and settlement in Israeli settlements.
The Gaza Division was formed from the northern brigade named “Hajifen”, which took the center of Gaza City as its headquarters, moving after returning to the settlements known as the Gaza Strip.
Center Brigade: Its units were stationed in the center of the Strip, and after the “Gaza-Jericho” agreement, it was attached to the Southern Brigade.
Southern Brigade: Known as the “Gatif Brigade” it provided security for the settlement camps in Gaza and then returned to the “Kerem Shalom” area.

The “Samson Unit”, whose members operated within the Mustarafim ranks and later merged with the “Duvdevan” faction and the “Avery Hablata” faction, was formed in 2003 after an intensification of guerrilla activities by Palestinian resistance movements. The unit was tasked with finding and destroying tunnels in Gaza and carrying out assassination operations.
