The late Dr. Engineer Abdul Rahman Maklouf received his doctorate from the University of Munich in 1957 and after working as an expert in the field of urban planning, gained extensive experience in the field of urban planning in many Arab and foreign countries. At the United Nations, he later emigrated to Abu Dhabi in 1968, where his father, the late Sheikh Saeed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the director of urban planning in Abu Dhabi, may his soul rest in peace. He served as Urban Lecturer in Architecture at the University of the UAE between 1983 and 1985, and was honored with the Abu Dhabi Award in its fifth session in 2010, and received the award from Sheikh Mohammed bin Saeed Al. Nahyan, in recognition of his contribution to building the urban renaissance seen in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Falah Mohammed Al-Ahbabi, Head of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, also praised the leadership’s appreciation and respect for key figures in all fields and humanitarian fields. “The Abu Dhabi government always works to respect man and build on what he has achieved so that he can witness his achievements and contributions anywhere in the world,” he said. He added: “Dr. Abdul Rahman Maklouf had a clear impact on the design of Abu Dhabi’s urban features and was an important chapter in the writing of the urban success story of the United Arab Emirates. As a testament to the legacy, let his soul rest in peace to achieve the vision of the founder of the state, balanced within the framework of Abu Dhabi’s development, urban, social and economic infrastructure and comprehensive development.
