Iranian official media quoted Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as saying today, Monday, that Tehran welcomes diplomatic ties with Egypt during a meeting with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Sai of Oman.
Relations between Cairo and Tehran have remained largely territorial, although the two countries have maintained diplomatic ties over the past decades.
Khamenei’s comments came as countries in the Middle East, including Egypt, took steps to ease tensions in the region. In March, Saudi Arabia and Iran ended years of hostility and agreed to restore diplomatic ties under a deal brokered by China.
This comes at a time when Iran and the Sultanate of Oman have agreed to draft a strategic cooperation document between them covering various sectors.
This was revealed in a statement issued at the end of the visit of Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Sayed to Tehran.
According to Iran’s Mehr news agency, the Sultan of Oman and his accompanying delegation left Tehran on Monday to return to their country after meeting Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Ibrahim Raisi after a two-day visit. and many Iranian officials.
A statement released by Iran and Oman said: The leaders of Iran and Oman have called on government officials to take necessary steps to prepare a strategic cooperation document in various fields, such as strengthening and establishing relations between the two brotherly countries. Signing as the foundations for these relations and their continuation and promotion of cooperation and mutual interests.”
Both countries signed 4 documents on economic and investment cooperation yesterday Sunday.
