Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the formation of his new government, hours after he was sworn in as the country’s president for a new term, including a complete reshuffle of the previous ministerial staff.
At a press conference held this Saturday evening, Erdogan introduced his new ministers and announced the appointment of Cevdet Yilmaz as Vice President.
Turkey’s president announced the appointment of intelligence chief Hakan Fidan as foreign minister in the new government.
Fidan served for 13 years as head of intelligence. He was born in 1968 and graduated from the Military School, in the Land Forces of the Department of Languages.
Fidan returned to academic life after serving in the army and lectured in the Department of International Relations at “Hazetepe” and “Pilkent” Universities in Ankara, after which he held important positions in the Departments of Foreign Policy and Defense. Different levels of government.
Muhammed Simsek’s appointment to the Treasury and Finance portfolio comes in line with recent speculation, and his appointment could signal a possible shift in fiscal and monetary policy followed by Ankara in the past years.
Şimşek was highly regarded by investors when he held the posts of finance minister and deputy prime minister between 2009 and 2018, Reuters reported.
President Erdogan also announced the appointment of Istanbul’s governor, Ali Yerlikaya, as interior minister, and Yasser Guler as defense minister.
The country’s ambassador to Algeria, Mahinur Özdemir Kokdas, was appointed Minister of Family and Social Policies in the new government.
Kokdas is of both Turkish and Belgian nationality, and was previously known as the first headscarf member of parliament in Belgium.
Fahrettin Koca retained his position as Minister of Health, and Mehmet Nuri Ersoy retained the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
