How to use the new Passkeys feature on WhatsApp… step by step

WhatsApp has launched the Passkeys feature for everyone, and in a week, it will be available to all users, and if you’re looking for a way to start using the new authentication method on WhatsApp, here’s how you can get started. It is, but before getting down to the steps, here are a few things you should know about it.

-Passkeys are a new and improved way to access WhatsApp accounts as part of Meta’s password-free strategy.

-It replaces the old, more complex SMS-based two-factor authentication, simplifying and improving security during the login process.

-Users can log in using facial recognition, fingerprint scanning or a personal PIN, which is secure and easy to use.

-Passkeys will work seamlessly with existing features like chat lock and different screen lock modes (fingerprint recognition, face unlock, pin or swipe pattern etc.).

-Each password contains a unique encryption key that is automatically stored in Google Password Manager.

-It is currently only available on Android and is expected to be released on iOS soon.

Steps to Enable Passkeys on WhatsApp

– Set up Google Password Manager

Before you start creating your WhatsApp passkey, make sure you have Google Password Manager installed on your phone and set it up properly.

1. Open WhatsApp and access settings

Launch the WhatsApp app on your device and go to the Settings section on the right corner of the app’s home screen. Then click on Accounts and you will see Passkeys option.

Under the Settings menu, scroll through the various options until you find the Passports option, where you can manage and create passwords for your WhatsApp account.

4. Create a passkey

Click on the “Generate Password” button to start the process of generating a password for your WhatsApp account.

5. Review the passkey details

After clicking Generate Password, a new pop-up window will appear with more information about your passwords.

6.Continue to create the passkey

In the pop-up window, you will see “Continue” button. Press this button to continue generating your passkey for WhatsApp.
