Honorary Oscars for American comedian Mel Brooks and actress Angela Bassett

American director and comedian Mel Brooks, who turns 97 this week, will receive an honorary Oscar for his lifetime, the Hollywood Academy announced Monday, along with other stars including actress Angela Bassett.

His famous 1967 sitcom The Producers, in which he satirized Hitler, won an Oscar for best original screenplay.

The Hollywood guru of comedy is one of the few winners of the most prestigious awards in American entertainment: Oscars (in film), Emmys (in television), Tonys (in theater) and Grammys (in music).

Brooks will receive an honorary Oscar alongside actress Angela Bassett at the November 18 ceremony.

The 64-year-old American actress is best known for her role as Tina Turner in the 1993 biopic about the singer, and has been nominated for an Oscar twice, most recently for her role in this year’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Bassett is known for her eclectic style in choosing roles, and has starred in several action films including the horror series “American Horror Story” and “Olympus Has Fallen” and “Mission Impossible: Fall Out.” She put her voice to the role of an American woman. First, former Michelle Obama on “The Simpsons.”

The Honorary Oscars are presented each year at a separate ceremony from the Oscars, usually held in March.
