According to Dr. Jamal Shaban, former dean of the National Heart Institute, there are foods and beverages that should be avoided or minimized because they pose a major risk to the health of the heart and blood vessels.

Shaban identified the following foods and beverages as harmful to the heart:

1- Sugars

When you follow a sugar-rich diet, your risk of heart disease increases because excess sugar prompts the liver to deposit a lot of harmful fats in the bloodstream.

2- Salt

Salt negatively affects the health of the heart and blood vessels, as it leads to high blood pressure and fluid retention in the body, so it is recommended to avoid foods such as pickles with a little salt added to the food while cooking.

3- Fried foods

There is no dispute about the high nutritional value of potatoes and chicken, but when fried in oil, they get a high percentage of trans fats, which cause high blood cholesterol.

4- Red meat

Despite the high nutritional value of red meat, it should be eaten in moderation, as consuming too much of it leads to high levels of harmful cholesterol in the blood, as it contains high levels of saturated fats.
