La Liga
Following Saturday’s 1-2 loss to Real Madrid in El Clasico, Spanish football team Barcelona’s player Ilkay Gundogan has asked his teammates to show more enthusiasm and emotional feelings.
Gundogan scored the lead for Barcelona, his first goal since joining the club in the summer, but new Real star Jude Bellingham scored twice to give his side the win in stoppage time.
Gundogan said on social networking site “X” (formerly Twitter) on Sunday: “What an unnecessary result yesterday – very disappointing. We have to take big steps and learn from them.”
Gundogan, who captained Manchester City to the treble last season before joining Barcelona in the summer, added more details in an interview with DAZN portal.
Gundogan said: “I don’t want to say anything wrong, but I was in the dressing room and of course everyone was disappointed. But especially after such a big match I want to see more frustration, more anger, more disappointment.”
He added: “That’s the problem. There has to be too much emotion, especially if you lose, you have to react, you have to be angry.”
He added: “As an experienced player, I feel it is my responsibility to ensure that the team does not simply accept such things.”
Barcelona are currently four points behind Real and Girona.
He insisted: “We have to make a step forward in this region, otherwise Real Madrid or Girona will drop out. I’m not here to lose a match like this or let the gap widen.”
