Global gold prices
Gold prices soared as growing concerns about the delta strain of the corona virus and its impact on economic recovery hurt the sense of danger.
At the end of the trading week – Friday – the ounce rose 0.3 percent to $ 1785.93, now up 0.4 percent during the week. And the US gold futures are up 0.3 percent at $ 1788.10.
Nicholas Frapel, general manager of ABC Bullion, said gold was supported by pessimism about the medium-term outlook for the economy.
“However, the market is facing some difficulties in light of concerns about stimulus reduction time,” he added.
The dollar, a safe haven competitor that has limited profits on the yellow metal, has lived near its highest level for more than nine months, benefiting from concerns about the corona virus and expectations that the US Federal Reserve will begin to ease the stimulus this year.
