Michael Lerner, star of the popular Elf and Godzilla movies, has died at the age of 81, and his nephew Sam revealed his death in a post on Instagram.
The Lerner family says they have “lost a legend.” One of Lerner’s most famous roles included his participation in the classic Godzilla, where he played Meyer Ebert in the 1998 sci-fi film alongside Hollywood stars Matthew Broderick and Hank Azaria.
Lerner starred alongside Will Ferrell in the 2003 hit comedy Elf, considered by many to be a Christmas favorite – as Fulton Greenaway, the tough boss of Walter Body the Elf, played by James Caan.

The nephew of late The Goldbergs star Sam Lerner took to Instagram to share the devastating news. Sharing a series of 10 photos from her uncle’s long career, she began an emotional tribute to the late, saying, “We lost a legend last night.”
Sam added, “It’s hard to put into words how smart my uncle Michael is, and how much he touched me. His stories always inspired me and made me fall in love with acting. He’s so amazing, so confident and talented. The man and the fact that he’s my uncle will always inspire me.” Makes you feel special.”
Sam said “everyone who knew him knew how crazy he was – in the best way”. “I’m very lucky to have spent so much time with him, and we’re all lucky to be able to continue to see his work,” he added.
