The US unit will be monitored for three years, and the vehicle manufacturer will be required to conduct a preliminary review of compliance with its clean air law and inspection and testing procedures, and to prepare and report at least two reviews and two follow-up reports.

The U.S. Department of Justice says Fiat Chrysler’s U.S. division has developed software designed to help fraudulent diesel vehicles meet the required emission standards, in addition to regulatory inspections.
