Muscat, 16 October / WAM / The 35th meeting of the Heads of Olympic Committees of the Gulf Cooperation Council, today Monday, approved the hosting of the first Gulf Youth Games in the sister Sultanate of Oman. UAE in April 2024, the final proposal for the timetable and competition plan was then submitted to the Secretariat for final approval.
Sheikh Rasheed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Vice Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, led the UAE delegation, which was joined by His Excellency Faris Al Mudawa, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee and other members of the Olympic Committee. Directors, namely His Major General Dr. Mohammed Al Murr, Nasser Al Tamimi and Amal Bouchlak, as well as Mohammed Bin Darwish, Managing Director of the Group.
Yesterday, Sunday, during the 97th meeting, the Heads of the Gulf Olympic Committees, Their Highnesses, Excellencies and Honorable Members of the Executive Office, accepted and considered some of the recommendations received regarding the items on the meeting’s agenda.
The first item was reviewed on the development and strengthening of the Joint Sports Working System to empower the Gulf Olympic Committees to strengthen their capacities and ensure the continued development of the Gulf Sports Working System.
It was reviewed and approved to implement a mechanism for the exchange of professionals and experts in the field of sports between GCC countries, according to sectors, programs and time frames, and to implement the Secretariat’s initiative for on-the-job training. Urge Olympic Committees to organize special trainings and workshops in the field of sport if the member states of the General Secretariat host conferences, workshops and special events in the field of sport for 2024.
The participants reviewed the fourth item on international cooperation, and approved the appointment of a working group to examine aspects of international joint cooperation, prepare an assessment of existing strategic dialogues in the field of sports, and propose specific projects. To discuss the future aspirations and interests of sportspersons and the possibility of opening new channels with fraternal and allied countries and international organizations in the field.
The participants were briefed on the items related to the Sports Advisory Committee which consists of 4 Advisory Committees to organize and follow joint sports activities namely Sports Team, Women’s Sports Team, Athletics Team and Paralympic Sports Team.
It was agreed that in approving and confirming the names of the candidates of the Olympic Committees in the Sports Advisory Committee, all the Advisory Committees should follow a unified procedure without conflicting with each other in carrying out their assigned tasks and duties.
Approved the plan for an integrated electronic platform for Gulf Women’s Sports proposed by the United Arab Emirates, which is related to the women’s component and included in the Integrated Games.
The date for hosting the first Gulf Games for futsal and martial arts was approved in Saudi Arabia from September 30 to October 9, 2024, and the sports included in its competition schedule were also approved.
The participants agreed to approve and confirm the names of the Olympic Committees’ candidates for the Sports Advisory Council for 4 years and to change the name of the Athletes’ Advisory Council to the Athletes’ Advisory Council.
