DUBAI, 18th April, 2020 (WAM) — Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, in collaboration with Emirates Association for Radio Amateurs and Emirates Literature Foundation, organized the first radio communication from the International Space Station with astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi. Held at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, it was the first in a series of 10 radio communications organized as part of the “Meeting from Space” event.

As part of the UAE Space Initiative between the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center and the Emirates Literary Foundation, 25 students from various schools had the opportunity to interact with astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, aiming to make space exploration accessible to all.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center and the Emirates Radio Amateur Society have collaborated with the International Space Station’s transit through the Arab Gulf countries to communicate with a ground station inside the center.

Radio communication is a popular pastime that allows communication between individuals, groups, and remote areas, making it a valuable tool in emergency situations.Using a wide range of frequencies, radio enthusiasts can communicate with others domestically and internationally all the way to space.

Since its emergence in the early 20th century, wireless communication has played an important role not only as a recreational activity but also in crises by facilitating emergency communications when traditional networks have failed to do so.

The International Space Station has its own radio communication program called ARISS, which uses wireless communications with the International Space Station crew to improve the lives of students around the world and inspire interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It allows students to see the details of life aboard the International Space Agency and helps them explore Earth from space through science and math related activities. The program also seeks to create awareness among school students about the benefits of space travel and exploration. and the experiments that take place during them.

During the radio call, interested participants from various schools in the UAE had the opportunity to ask Al Neyadi questions about the launch, the source of inspiration for becoming an astronaut, life on the International Space Station, scientific experiments being conducted, and climate change. The most important moments and activities related to space can be monitored.

Al-Neyadi enthusiastically shared his experiences on the International Space Station and talked about how they interact on the station and how to maintain their physical and psychological health. His favorite activity in space was that he enjoyed floating from block to block. International Space Station”.
