Sharjah, 19th March, 2019 (WAM) — Yesterday, the Sharjah Sports Council organized the second edition of “Paralympic Day” at the headquarters of the Korbakan Club for the Disabled with the aim of introducing sports and games to the public. All types of disabled people, and affirming the role of sports in empowering them, affirming their partnership and their difference in sections of society, has taken many talented people to coronation stages locally, continentally and globally.
Held in collaboration with Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, Parents Association of Persons with Disabilities, Korbakan Club for Persons with Disabilities and Al-Diqa Club for Persons with Disabilities, the events included various activities combining sports, culture and entertainment. Under the supervision of the Social and Cultural Committee and the follow-up of sports experts from the Council’s Department of Sports and Development Affairs, as well as volleyball tournaments. .
Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, His Highness Isa Hilal Al Hazami, praised the support of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and member of the Supreme Council, “a champion of the disabled”. The Knights of Will’s achievements at all levels have proven that they are heroes and great ambassadors for UAE sport in international forums, be it at representative, club or national team level.
In turn, World Olympic Champion Mohammed Al-Qaida said that the busy schedule for the second Paralympic Day was a compliment to the disabled community in various disciplines and showed interest in enriching it and widening the circle of participation. The UAE affirms the status enjoyed by people with disabilities in society and the prevailing culture towards them.
