ABU DHABI, 4th July, 2019 (WAM) — Manchester City Football Club today announced the signing of England international midfielder Calvin Phillips, 26, from Leeds United on a six-year contract.
Manchester City explained on their website today that Phillips won the admiration of followers not only through his form with Leeds United, but through his brilliance in the England national team, where he was an integral part of the squad he achieved. The European Cup of Nations (Euro 2020) final was held in the middle of last year.
Phillips scored 14 goals in 234 appearances for Leeds United over 8 seasons and was instrumental in helping his teammates reach the 2022 World Cup.
Speaking on the Manchester City website, Phillips said: “I am delighted to be joining Manchester City, who have proven once again that they are the best team in England under coach Guardiola, who is regarded as the best team. In the world.”
The player confirmed that he is very eager to start his experience playing in this exciting team and learn from this coach under the leadership of Guardiola. “Manchester City is a world-class team and a world-class club with world-class facilities and it would be a dream come true to move to this club,” he said.
He added, “Now, I can’t wait to start my career with the team and contribute to the start and further success.”
