Emirates News Agency – “Economy and Tourism” is conducting a workshop in Dubai on efforts to accelerate the growth of e-commerce.

Dubai, May 9 / WAM / The Department of Economics and Tourism in Dubai hosted a virtual workshop attended by more than 15 leaders in the e-commerce sector, including the “Noon” e-platform and Amazon. The e-commerce initiative was initiated by the E-Commerce Committee of the Accelerator Unit Economics in Dubai.

The workshop is aimed at soliciting the views and observations of stakeholders in the field of e-commerce initiatives in Dubai, including small and medium enterprises and multinational corporations in Dubai. And local companies to ensure a conducive environment for e-commerce companies in the Emirate.

Among the efforts discussed during the workshop were simplification of the VAT registration process, allowing 24-hour terrain warehouse operations, simplification of billing of the exit check process and reduction of exit fees for wholesalers and e-commerce companies, as well as integration of maritime and air cargo. The processing and other services of parcel lockers across the emirate will enhance Dubai’s e-commerce and logistics hub, as well as enhance the competitiveness of local small e-commerce businesses.

The interactive session, hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, was attended by a number of government agencies, including the Dubai Customs, Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and the Dubai Municipality.

Dubai South provided an overview of the state of the e-commerce sector, while explaining to enterprises the initiatives related to this and the benefits expected from them.

It is noteworthy that the Dubai Economic Acceleration Unit was recently established to ensure the optimal implementation of the strategic initiatives developed within the framework of the Dubai Economic Plan 2030 for economic recovery after the epidemic.

To expedite efforts to attract investment to the Emirate of Dubai, the Economic Acceleration Group is working directly with stakeholders in the public and private sectors.

The e-Commerce Unit is the core focus of the e-Commerce Committee as it operates as a joint government body that embodies Dubai’s e – commerce, its empowerment, its charisma and vision for its development.
