DUBAI, 18th June, 2020 (WAM) — Major General /Mr. Ismail Al Gharqawi, president of the Arab and United Arab Emirates Basketball Federations, confirmed that Bahraini side Manama deserved the West Asian Super League title. Manama, crowned with the title and runner-up Kuwait, qualified for the Asian Championship, while Kazakhstan’s “BC Astana” finished third in the tournament.
Al-Gerqawi said: Arab and Gulf basketball, in particular, demonstrated its high level at the level of West Asian competitions, and succeeded in securing its place in the 2023 Asian Championship finals. He pointed out that “Manama” had given excellent positions and was crowned. Arab basketball proved to impose its strong presence in this tournament, with a win against Kuwait, and a great performance.

He added, “Bahrain basketball has achieved great success in the Gulf and Asia, and its teams enjoy huge public support, which contributes to the success of any tournament hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain.”
Al-Gerqawi felt that Shabaab Al-Ahli Club did not win the tournament because of the difficult conditions Shabaab Al-Ahli Club faced before the tournament and affected its results, especially the forced change of its professionals before the tournament started and lack of harmony.
