DUBAI, 14th July, 2020 (WAM) — Since the beginning of this year, Dubai Municipality has engaged 4,791 volunteers and participants who are interested in the environmental sector to protect the cleanliness of the Emirate of Dubai and its sustainability. Environment, as part of its field community initiative, “One Hour…with a Cleaner,” had volunteers take on the tasks of cleaners. Beaches, markets, commercial, industrial, residential, landfill and desert areas in all types of waste disposal.
Engineer Saeed Abdul Rahim Zafar, Executive Director of Dubai Municipality’s Waste Operations Department, emphasized the municipality’s interest in promoting social responsibility initiatives and volunteer work opportunities in the field of public health and sustainable waste management, due to their contributions supporting the municipality’s efforts. Managing waste operations and protecting the environment and cultural heritage of the Emirate of Dubai, providing integrated and effective municipal services for all 24 hours a day and throughout the year.
The Director of Waste Operations at Dubai Municipality said: In the first half of this year, we documented the completion of 4,791 voluntary fieldwork through the ‘One Hour…to Clean’ initiative. Volunteers from 62 public, private and civil institutions, including public health, staff, students and committed people, were able to collect 9.4 tons of waste from beaches, deserts and residential areas, and 70 percent of the waste was diverted to recycling routes, improving the cleanliness of the emirate, its local environment and its cultural heritage. and contributed to improve the consistency of the aesthetic appearance.
The initiative supports the local community’s charitable activities and the environment, especially as it continues throughout the year. It is noteworthy that Dubai Municipality won the title of “Watani Al Emarat Award for Humanitarian Work” in its tenth session for its voluntary social initiative under the slogan “Sayed Loved” and “Community’s Footprint”. hours … with cleaner”.
This initiative earned the UAE the first place in the “Prince Muhammad Bin Fahd International Foundation Award for Outstanding Volunteering”.
