Elton John performed his last concert in the UK at the Glastonbury Festival
Tens of thousands of music fans began flocking to Glastonbury in southwest England on Wednesday, anticipating a concert by superstar Elton John on Sunday, his “last” UK festival of fame.
The concert will be the 76-year-old English singer’s first appearance at the annual festival near the small medieval town, which will take place on Sunday from the “Pyramid Stage”, the most prominent of Glastonbury’s theatres. to complete the program of its fifty-first session.
Also, this concert is distinguished as the last concert in England for the owner of “Rocket Man”, “Tiny Dancer” and other songs. The star will later make a stop in Paris as part of her farewell world tour, followed by a concert in Stockholm.
In an interview with the BBC at the end of May, John noted that this was the first time he had been asked to perform at the ceremony. “It comes at the right time. It’s the best way to end the parade in England, I believe in destiny,” he added.
Among the big names participating in the festival are two bands “Arctic Monkeys” and “Guns N’ Roses”, who will perform two concerts on the “Pyramid Stage” on Friday and Saturday.
Despite the participation of prominent singers such as Blondie, Lizzo and Lana Del Rey, the festival was criticized for not having female performers on this main stage.
The Glastonbury festival, considered one of the most popular festivals since 1970 and attended by the world’s biggest stars, will end its session in 2022 with a concert by ex-Beatle Paul McCartney. The most popular Beatles songs, as well as star Diana Ross.
In early November, more than one lakh entry tickets for the festival, which runs from June 21 to June 25, were sold out within an hour, despite the price of the tickets touching $400. More than 200,000 people are expected to attend the festival.
Festival organizers have confirmed that “Sir Elton”, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998, will have an “unforgettable farewell”. Elton John, for his part, noted that he would be presenting a “new show” at the festival.
“I’ll start with a song I haven’t played in about ten years,” he told the BBC.
